Would You Ever

Tell me, would you ever
Drive blindly in the fog
Knowing that you will surely hit
A poor and helpless dog?

Tell me, would you ever
Leave poison on your mat
Knowing that it could kill
A very curious cat?

Tell me, would you ever
An old house destroy
While under the rickety stairs
Was crouched a little boy?

You say there’s no cat, dog, or boy
You scoff and pay no heed
But for one who believes there is
Is it not a crime to proceed?

Schrödinger’s Cat

There is a cat in a chamber,
Some poison is placed with it
It’s sealed in a canister, which
May or may not emit it.

The chamber is taking up space
The scientists cannot decide
If the chamber should be destroyed
Or maybe opened or moved outside.

Some claim the cat is dead
Some claim it is still living
Some claim that till the chamber is open
There is no way of knowing.

They vote to destroy the chamber
And with it the cat goes
Did the scientists kill the cat?
Nobody really knows.
